Boretto

Boretto

Starting from the “Casa dei Pontieri” (a private museum housing objects, tools and photographs related to the old bridge made up of barges on the Po river) and continuing along the river towards Guastalla, you come across a stretch of the “Ciclovia VenTo” (VenTo cycle path). The “Museo Multimediale della Bonifica” (Multimedia Museum of Reclamation) is placed in the area, near the bridge adjacent to the pumping station in Boretto. The itinerary continues on the main embankment, towards the Regional tourist port and the “Lido Po” area.

In Boretto, you will discover green areas, a park, refreshment points and berths for boats. It is also possible to go on excursions on the river, rent bicycles, go fishing and find information concerning three museums placed in the area, linked by the great river Po.
Descending along “via dell’Argine strada per Gualtieri” – where the famous scene about the procession of Don Camillo and the talking crucifix was shot – and continuing along “via Sacchi”, you get to the centre of Boretto, where it is possible to visit the Town Hall - with the Council Hall frescoed in Art-Nouveau style by designer Marcello Nizzoli. Nearby, you may also admire the “Basilica Minore di San Marco Evangelista” and a statue representing the Lion of Saint Mark, placed in “Piazza San Marco”. Opposite the theatre (Teatro del Fiume), you will discover the square and the War Memorial, whereas, heading towards Brescello, it is possible to reach “Casa Museo al Belvedere”, a museum dedicated to Pietro Ghizzardi, which not only houses the largest collection of works by the artist, but also served as his home during the last ten years of his life.

PO 432, the “Museo-Cantiere del Po, della navigazione interna e del governo delle acque” is located on the river Po banks in Boretto - exactly 432 kilometers away from the source on the Monviso. Po 432, the museum-shipyard of navigation and government of the river Po, documents the history of the fluvial navigation in Emilia-Romagna.
The area covers 25,000 square meters and includes several buildings and tools, among which the “Pirodraga Secchia”, dating back to 1963. It is a 33-meter long boat, placed next to the museum and visible along the cycle path that skirts “Via Argine Cisa”.
