A walk through Brescello

The famous town centre of Brescello still rejoices in the enduring presence of the figures that once inhabited its streets disguised as a film set. Statues, busts, props and other memorabilia lie scattered throughout the town, telling a story that began in the post-war period and still today moves us and makes us smile.

We recommend that visitors park in Viale Soliani and from there take the road heading south: first you will come across the witty murals depicting Don Camillo and Peppone, and then you will reach Piazza Matteotti, where the same characters take on new form as bronze statues - one in front of the Church of Santa Maria Nascente, the other opposite the Town Hall.

At the Tourist Information Centre, tickets are available for the town’s three museums: the Guareschi Museum, the Roman Archaeological Museum and the Peppone and Don Camillo Museum, all open daily.

On the way back toward the parking area, more adventurous visitors may choose to explore the local Golena (floodplain), strolling to the mouth of the Enza River and discovering the village of Ghiarole.
