A Weekend in the Bassa Reggiana
The Bassa Reggiana shows its best from spring to autumn, when the climate allows visitors to enjoy the vast outdoor spaces along the River Po, surrounded by well-organized rural landscapes.
The area is easily accessible by different means of transport: cars and motorbikes can take the highway and exit at Reggiolo-Rolo; for those travelling by camper there are numerous public rest areas, some of which partner with private suppliers; visitors can also arrive by train along the Reggio Emilia - Guastalla line, departing either from Guastalla’s central station or from the Mediopadana hub - where POP/ROCK regional trains are equipped with wagons for transporting bicycles.
Means of transport to explore the Bassa Reggiana are varied and interchangeable: walk along mapped trails, cycle across interprovincial routes, paddle a canoe down the River Po, or navigate comfortably on a boat.
During the warm season, cafés and restaurants open along the riverbanks and on the local lidi (shores): perfect places to stop for a break, lunch, or aperitif.
The main squares of the municipalities turn into open-air stages, and the events calendar becomes rich and diverse; moving toward the surrounding hamlets visitors can join local sagre (traditional feasts) featuring authentic food and wine and music festivals of various genres.
To view the events calendar in real time, follow our IAT Bassa Reggiana Channel - here you will find all the leisure activities available during your stay.
For those who prefer diving into the land’s stories, a wide network of visitable places awaits: Museums, Palaces, Churches and Archaeological Sites, as well as agricultural companies that have been preserving culinary traditions for generations, such as the production of Parmigiano Reggiano, Lambrusco and Aceto Balsamico.
