"Albino Umiltà" Archaeological Museum
Located within the San Benedetto Cultural Center, the "Albino Umiltà" Archaeological Museum houses a collection of artifacts unearthed in Brescello since the late 19th century. The town itself has a past of great historical importance: founded in the 4th century BC by the Cenomani, an ancient tribe of Cisalpine Gauls, it later became a major Roman settlement, largely thanks to its strategic control of trade and transport along the River Po between the 1st century BC and the 2nd century AD.
The visit begins on the ground floor, where visitors encounter the small necropolis of Brixellum with several original funerary steles and a replica of the monumento ai Concordi, a monumental tomb. This section also includes the reconstruction of a typical Roman domus, complete with mosaic flooring.
The itinerary continues on the first floor, where the exhibition traces the history of archaeological research in Brescello. It explores the Roman presence in the area, land reclamation and drainage works, commercial networks, as well as aspects of urban planning and domestic life.
